Brighton sign Fati on loan from Barcelona

Wrexham have bolstered their midfield options with the signing of Millwall’s George Evans.
The 28-year-old, a Manchester City academy graduate who can also play at centre-half, has spent the past two years at The Den, making 60 appearances for the Championship club.
He has signed a two-year contract after joining for an undisclosed fee. His arrival is expected to be the start of a busy day at Wrexham, as Phil Parkinson looks to strengthen ahead of the 11pm deadline.
As The Athletic revealed earlier this week, several offers have been on the table for targets that meet the selling club’s valuation. However, a need for those clubs to bring in their own replacements is understood to have caused the hold-up.
Goalkeeper and striker are two positions that Wrexham have actively looked to strengthen in recent days following the retirement of Ben Foster and Paul Mullin missing the start of the season through injury.
Evans has spent all his EFL career in either League One or the Championship. He joined Millwall from Derby County on February 1, 2021, after earlier playing for Reading in the second tier.
He has made just three substitute appearances this season, amounting to 42 minutes. Last season, Evans’ game time was similarly restricted by the good form in midfield of Billy Mitchell, George Saville and Jamie Shackleton. He played 11 times in the Championship, all from the bench.
Evans’ arrival bolsters an area where Wrexham have sometimes struggled for control this season, particularly on home soil where MK Dons and Swindon Town dominated midfield at times en route to scoring five goals apiece.
He brings aggression and a tough-tackling style, plus an ability to pick a pass.
Evans made one senior appearance for City, coming off the bench in a 4-1 win over Sunderland in the League Cup. It made him the second player to represent the club at all levels from Under-8s upwards, Chris Chantler having done so first.
While at the Etihad Stadium, he had loan spells in League One with Crewe Alexandra, Scunthorpe United and Walsall. Evans has ten career league goals, including two for Millwall.
